Through a diverse and eclectic series of events, our first Scent Week shone a spotlight on global perfumery practices in the context of Los Angeles' thriving perfume scene.
Our first Scent Week took place between May 4 - 14, 2023. The next edition will be between May 31 and June 8, 2025.
May 4, The Aster
Join the Institute for Art and Olfaction and our friends for a multi-sensorial soiree on the rooftop of the Aster. Watch Bladerunner followed by a specially commissioned video by Alex The Brown, listen to music by Anthony Valadez and Jeremy Sole, and enjoy an aromatic cocktail with Topo Chico.
May 4, The Aster
Perfumer Alfonso Nicolai (with Teorema Scent Studio and The Aster) presents Cinema SENTIR, a film series featuring 4D sensory activations. Kick off Scent Week with a special screening of a very LA movie: Blade Runner (Ridley Scott, 1982).
May 5-7, Craft Contemporary
Scent Fair LA introduces new audiences to the world of highly conceptual scents. A curated selection of cutting-edge fragrance makers exhibiting and selling their work, hands-on workshops, an opening night party, and it all takes place at Craft Contemporary.
May 6, Craft Contemporary
Artist, musician, perfume expert, and Scent Bar manager Steven Gontarski joins IAO founder Saskia Wilson-Brown in a rousing discussion about art and the senses. This talk is presented as part of Scent Fair, LA, presented with Darin Klein.
May 8, The Aster
Join us for a lively conversation exploring perfumery and culture. Tanaïs (In Sensorium: Notes for My People, Studio Tanaïs) and Dana El Masri (Jazmin Saraï) host a discussion about culture and scent that grounds itself in the practice of making.
May 9, Travertine Studio
Terry Carter opens Travertine Studio for an afternoon of perfumery, featuring a lively panel discussion on Entrepreneurship and Ethics (with Christophe Laudamiel, Ethan Turner, Chavalia Mwamba), an Indie Perfumer’s Marketplace, new friends, and good times.
May 9, IAO Gallery
IAO hosts a private view for Romanian artist Cristian Marianciuc’s Olfactory Peregrinations: jewel-like paper birds, delicately cut, folded and glued to evoke the sensorial impressions produced by contemporary and vintage perfumes.
